The poetry carnival has bounced around the Blogosphere for several years now, stopping and starting in spits and sputters but never really making a complete lap without a breakdown so I thought, Billy, why don't you do something about it? You know how to fix things, you've got more tools than most poets and you know what it needs.

So I pondered the situation a bit and decided the first thing the carnival needed was someone to be committed. Dude, you could be committed at any moment if a shrink somewhere happens to read your poetry!

Next, a carnival needs a home base, a place to repair equipment and organize events. Billy, you know how to build stuff. "Oh S%^$# my &**^%!" Sorry about the outburst, I hit the wrong nail. Careful Dude, you've got no insurance.

Finally, a carnival needs a name, something more than just Poetry Carnival, you know? Something with a classic, yet textured feel, something... Hey, I got an idea!

And so, with that, my crazy alter ego and I bring you the Ringing Of The Bards, a weekly poetry carnival bigger and better than all the carnivals before it, with a listing of every one who hosts the carnival, links to their sites and info on where the poetry carnival will be held each week. I'll also be using Poets101.com, BloggingPoet.com and The Idle Hands
Newsletter to promote The Ringing Of The Bards making this the biggest and bestess carnival ever.

And did I mention the Ringing Of The Bards is to be a weekly event. See the list below to see who's next.

Also, participants are requested to please post to your blogs each time you participate in The Ringing so that your readers can enjoy works by poets they might not yet know. I hope you enjoy being combined with the Tarheel Tavern again. Submissions were few for both but together they made up a full carnival.

We desperately need hosts ASAP. I would love to host it every week but that would be bad for the carnival, Please sign-up for the newsletter if you haven't already.

In other news: Let's use our poetry to do good. Please check out APoetsRag.com and consider submitting a poem to be published in an anthology of 365 poems with the goal of contributing 100% of the profits to a worthy nonprofit chosen by those who contribute to the cause. Feedback is welcome as well.

And finally, if you've got a book in print I want to use the Shoppes Blog to help others learn about your book. No I don't have the clout to make you a best selling author but it is free and only requires your time.

Don't forget BloggingPoet411.com. It's a great place to put all those things you could never put in a single search engine or directory listing. While I suggested no more than 100 words I really don't care if you write a thousand.

That's why I'm asking poetry bloggers everywhere to send me your submissions by 2 PM EST tomorrow so I can have it posted by tomorrow night. Send them to idleblogs (AT) yahoo.com

The theme is anything to do with any December event.

Also, hosts are desperately needed for future ringings. You can check the schedule to see who's hosting but the easiest was is to sign-up for the newsletter.

Or you could just let it die...Billy Joneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16264147065000056960noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29936960.post-1161009072467126722006-10-16T10:30:00.000-04:002006-10-16T10:31:12.480-04:0017 Ringers In A RowBecause I made a dumb mistake causing my hobby horse to throw a shoe, we almost failed to have a Ringing this week but the rushing Russian Abhay came racing in on a fast horse to save the day. Abhay, you are a hero and the author of some very fine verse.

The Ringing Of The Bards is a weekly English Language poetry carnival open to poetry bloggers around the world. Why only English? Because I'm a dumb American who knows no other language.

Next week's host will be the naughty neon boys and girls of Wet Poems. Future hosts are always needed, you can check who's hosting when, get answers to your Ringing questions, and sign-up for the Ringing/Idle Hands Newsletter to be kept up to date on each and every Ringing Of The Bards as well as the latest in Billy News.

There's no doubt I've missed several so please send an e-mail to idleblogs (AT) yahoo.com if you're one of those I've missed.

Also, this is not to be the same as the list of Ringing Hosts so please let me know if you're a participant I've failed to include.

Admittedly I've not done the best job possible but there are three archives that are located outside of this website.

The Who's Hosting page serves as an archive as well.

The first archive can be found at my own BloggingPoet.com where links to every Ringing can be found. The second is our newsletter archive. Yeah, I've missed a couple of newsletters but most are there. The third archive is kept at BlogCarnival.com where each and every host can update the archives and announce the carnivals they plan to host even if I fail to get it done.

And those, my fellow poets, are four more reasons why you should consider hosting the Ringing Of The Bards.

The Ringing Of The Bards #9 is up and running at SomethingKaty. Based on the artistry of Miss Sam Duffy it was a smashing success.

This week's Ringing will be hosted by Paper Tigers.

Hosts are desperately needed.

Billy Joneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16264147065000056960noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29936960.post-1155512888702705862006-08-13T19:46:00.000-04:002006-08-13T19:48:08.713-04:00The Ringing #8The eighth edition of the Ringing Of The Bards is now up and running at Naked and Ashamed. Dan has done a great job painting with primary colors to produce a rainbow of poetry submissions.

If you'd like to know more about the Ringing Of The Bards (the poetry carnival) well that was the link. Plenty of weeks are available should you desire to become a host. Available weeks and previous hosts may be found here. Hey guys, we really need some hosts to step up to the plate.

Next weekend's host is Katy of SomethingKaty. Katy has some special submissions instructions should you wish to participate in next week's Ringing Of The Bards. I think once you read her instructions you'll be happy to take part.
